WPVR New York, Platinum Vibes Radio is set to pay homage to the legendary J-Pop group ARASHI 嵐 as it will broadcast a special one-hour program on November 3 to celebrate their CD Debut Anniversary.
The program will broadcast to Platinum Vibes Radio’s international audience Thursday, November 3 at 8:00am New York Time and a replay broadcast will occur later that evening at 7:00pm New York Time.
The show will be broadcast twice for the purpose of accommodating as many ARASHI fans as possible across the world, no matter what time zone or country they reside in.
WPVR hosted a similar celebration on September 15 to commemorate ARASHI’s formation as a band and were moved by the overwhelming expression of gratitude, appreciation and positive feedback they received from the extensive fanbase, so much so, that it will become an annually scheduled program for the station.
Maintaining a similar theme, the CD Debut Program on November 3 will feature one hour of ARASHI’s timeless music in tribute to the incredible legacy of music that they have created for their legions of unwavering fans who are endearingly referred to as Arashian (fans in Japan) and Arashic (fans outside of Japan).
The music of ARASHI and the support by their fandom for our platform is such an integral and rewarding part of our daily programming, so we are extremely excited to broadcast this celebration.
As I alluded to with the September program, this show is important to us on two levels in one, that we continue to pay tribute to and spread the legacy of ARASHI’s phenomenal music and contributions to J-Pop to the world. But also, the show is meant to show appreciation for the devoted fanbase of ARASHI. The heartfelt comments we read on social media and our request inbox are a true display of how much ARASHI’s music means to them and we’re very proud to be a part of the celebration and connecting ARASHI fans worldwide.

History of ARASHI’s first single
On November 3, 1999, ARASHI released their first single “A・RA・SHI” under the Pony Canyon record label.
- Certified 2x platinum by the RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan).
- Climbed to #1 on the Oricon Singles Chart.
- Peaked at #21 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100.
- Charted at #23 on the 1999 Year-End Oricon Singles Chart.
- Designated as the theme song for ARASHI’s mini-drama V no Arashi (Vの嵐) as well as used for the 8th World Cup of Volleyball in 1999 which was hosted by Japan.
- Included as a song on ARASHI’s debut studio album Arashi No.1 Ichigou: Arashi wa Arashi o Yobu!, released January 24, 2001.
- Remixed, re-recorded and released as a single titled “A-ra-shi: Reborn” on December 20, 2019. It would go on to be included in the EP Arashi Reborn Vol.1 which was released February 28, 2020.
