Canadian rapper Avalanche the Architect is a recording artist who pulls no punches in his lyricism. His bars are extremely bold and laced with a cutting edge level of unbridled authenticity as demonstrated on such album projects as Avalanche Season, Let There Be War and The Greatest Hip Hop or Rap Album Ever Recorded. Doesn’t that give you a vibe?!? Naming an album with a title like that alone exudes the high level of self-assuredness Avalanche has in his skills and craft.

Avalanche possesses a style that distinguishes him from his contemporaries in the rap game not only by his tone and provocative content, but he harkens back to the 90’s period in hip-hop when a rapper’s mouthpiece and lyrical game were the main focus. Many fans of the genre nostalgically refer to this period as the Golden Era of hip-hop.

Riding out with that aim to preserve and keep the boom bap spirit from the 90’s alive, Avalanche hits the mark with his latest effort , a blazing single called “Woodlands Shogun”. The title is appropriate as lyrically, Avalanche takes no prisoners on this record.

The track has a mystique that takes on the presence of a virtual showdown, straight-up confrontation where the person with the strongest will comes out on top. I believe that Avalanche definitely fed off his extensive background in martial arts and as a battle rapper to draw inspiration when writing this song.

Avalanche torches “Woodlands Shogun” as he delivers a barrage of scorching hot bars that are unapologetically in your face and projects a confidence that draws you into the track. Doused in a coat of light reverb, his voice resonates across the soundscape…imposing in style and it just gives the song a majestic feel overall.

The top notch production on “Woodlands Shogun” meets the rugged energy of Avalanche’s flow perfectly as it features a menacing bassline that resonates with a pulsating low end. Complemented by a phat-sized kick drum and piercing snare, plus the inclusion of an eerie, yet melodic chord progression, this track bursts through the roof with its tight instrumentation and vocal performance.
