Having been a classically trained pianist from an early age, music savant Mike Di Lorenzo has expanded his musicianship to incorporate a wondrous multi-genre palette of diversity including jazz, R&B, Latin and gospel to name a few. Mike’s accomplished career has seen him work with a legion of music industry heavyweights such as Whitney Houston, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and the Grammy-award winning NJ Mass Choir. Mike has also appeared at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, The Blue Note and the Apollo Theater.

Mike has cultivated his expansive music background and wide variety of influences into a sparkling new album project, “What We Need”, a 12-track compilation of originals and reworkings of R&B, pop and jazz standards featuring some of the most elite vocal talent in the industry. Today’s spotlight is on the title track of the album, “What We Need”, a rousing original song and composition which features the pristine vocal stylings of Anna Moore.

“What We Need” is a rhythm and blues symposium in all aspects that distinguishes itself prominently with a soulful, swinging instrumentation, jazzy in a form, which captivates your listening senses accentuated by Anna’s rich, velvety textured vocals which envelop you like a blanket. “What We Need” is a remarkable listening experience and displays Mike’s adeptness as a top-notch composer and arranger…. a consummate professional!

The song is a magnificent medley of instruments and melodic phrasing led by an infectious, bubbly grand piano riff and smooth lead saxophone throughout that almost speaks in a musical form. Aside from its phenomenal musical and vocal performance attributes, the lyrical content of “What We Need” must also be applauded for its enlightening and positive messaging.

To me, this song represents embracing the things in life that truly matter and sort of harkening back to the oft used saying “all that glistens is not gold”. Human nature is to be symbolically drawn to such shimmering items; however, value comes in things we often take for granted such as health, family, companionship etc.

We always hope for what we want
We think we want what we see
We always have to have it all
And it’s ok to have a dream

Lyrics for “What We Need”

VERSE 1
I done had a million wishes
Throughout all my days
I done had a lists of things
I want to come my way
Desires to come true
Everything brand new
And still what does it do

PRE HOOK
We always hope for what we want
We think we want what we see

HOOK
But nothings better than
having what we need
What we need
Nothings better than having what we need
What we need
I said nothings better than what we need

VERSE 2
I done donna lot of wrong
From thinking I was right
I done lost a lot of sleep
Up worrying at night
For desires to come true
Everything brand new
And still what does it do
Oooh

BRIDGE
We always look for
The biggest of pictures
When the one will do right in front of you
We always look for
All of the answers
Searching for something that you already knew

PRE HOOK
We always hope for what we want
We think we want what we see
We always have to have it all
And it’s ok to have a dream

HOOK
But nothings better than
having what we need
What we need
What we need
But nothings better than having what we need
I said nothings better than having what we need
