Chad Rubin’s music journey consists of a long winding road of unique and compelling twists and turns. It is the ultimate definition of personal development and evolution for the Arizona based singer, songwriter, producer and musician whose expansive music background dates back to his early childhood singing and performing with his family and buying his first drum set at the age of 12.

From that point, Chad honed his craft and would go on to play in a number of local bands before becoming a member of Sinclair’s Revenge, a punk-reggae band with whom he would record and tour with extensively. Progressing from there, Chad proceeded to pursue a solo recording career which culminated in his 2012 self-titled EP debut featuring the breakout single “Knock on the Door”. Still in college at the time, Chad shifted course dramatically and entered full-time into the field of his studies while moving to San Franscisco where he worked for five years flourishing in a corporate environment, however, ultimately, he arrived at the realization that his true passions lied within his love for music and revamped his musical pursuits with a renewed fervor.

Here we are now in 2022, and Chad has built a substantial catalog which includes a bevy of magnetically appealing singles which have a distinct pop sound that captures the elements of its sub-genres and also infuses undertones of other genres, a testament to the diverse background of music Chad has been exposed to over his life.

Today we’re going to dive into one of the latest tracks by Chad titled “Amen”, an upbeat, illuminating track off of the new album release Feels which is a spectacular 13-song assembly of Chad’s distinct pop stylings sonically and displays the expanse of his vocal acumen.

“Amen” contains a bright, vibrant soundscape that is brimming over with positivity. It has an almost anthemic feel, particularly in the hook which boasts a commanding set of multi-layered vocals bellowing the track’s title. The up-tempo drum section and melodic guitar phrasing throughout set the perfect backdrop for the harmonious vocals that resonate across the instrumentation. Absolutely beaming song…especially as you absorb the poignant lyrical content.

To me “Amen” represents an enlightening message to channel and trust your inner-most spirit and aspirations. Don’t shy away from challenges, don’t be afraid to move forward just because all your ducks aren’t in a row. Everything can’t be planned to perfection. Sometimes you have to let life flow. Ultimately those who distinguish themselves are the ones who go out on a limb, chase their passions and go at it with a zestful determination.

Ironically, the track itself actually developed in somewhat of a chance fashion as Chad shares:

This track was written in the back end of writing over 20 tracks to cut down to a 13-track record. I asked his bandmate and drummer (Maxwell Young) to start writing the song with a drum beat and the guitar came in after. Then the lyrics it just flowed out. We were in a state of putting out music and playing great shows again since 2020 and were pumped up to get heard! Can I get an amen?!?!?! We jumped in the studio and began production immediately.

Chad conveys the song’s theme succinctly with a top-notch vocal performance, utilizing masterfully placed inflections, shifts in timbre and an expressive delivery that are key to his vocal dynamism.

Playin’ nice feelin’ hyped waiting for my time to strike
Building up an attitude of greatness never just alright
You don’t really know when the shit’s about to blow
If you plan it then you missed it and you’ll probably never grow
The future’s gonna hold places for those that are bold
And these bad ass people I know!

More About Chad Rubin

Chad Rubin is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist musician out of Scottsdale, Arizona. Chad began playing music at a young age with his family in Phoenix, Arizona. From singing with his grandmother, to performing with his sisters, Chad was raised with a large variation of musical styles. After being kicked out of both band & orchestra for playing by ear, Chad found his place with the drummers. With help from his parents, he bought himself a drum kit at the age of 12 and began playing in local bands almost immediately.

After playing in several bands in the local scene. Chad went to school at the University of Arizona for two years. Ultimately, he was contacted by an Arizona based punk-reggae band called Sinclair’s Revenge which he co-wrote and toured a full-length album with bands such as Tomorrow’s Bad Seeds, The Dirty Heads, Katastro & Fyuca.  Chad then teamed up with producer-songwriter Curtis Douglas, who produced the Sinclair’s Revenge album (Something for Everyone, 2009), to begin his first attempt at a solo project. “Knock on the Door” was the first single off of Chad’s debut (self-titled ep, 2012.) After working with two other local studio-labels, Chad and Curtis decided to finish the album on their own. The entire album can be found streaming or for free under the discography page.

Chad was still attending college while promoting his first album and was offered an internship in his selected major, marketing. He began working as a brand manager for an electrical engineering firm based in Phoenix, Arizona. This job eventually moved him to California where he took on the role of electrical inspector & project engineer for over 5 years, traveling around the country designing, inspecting & building airport runway lighting systems. While working as an engineer and living in San Francisco, Chad began performing around town to positive feedback, which created a buzz in his home community as well as in the Bay Area.

After years of travel, a heavy work schedule, and an evolving dreary path, Chad realized he was living the life of someone else. He decided to move back to Los Angeles to continue his musical endeavors where he teamed up with Risi (e2k) and continued writing his next solo album. Chad immediately started filling in as a drummer, percussionist or guitarist in Hollywood as well as writing for & with several artists in the Los Angeles area. All while flying home monthly to work on his self-produced 2nd album (Brighter Days 2015) with Steve Parrish of Desert Coast studios, where it all began.

After being hired as musical director for the film “Sweet Sunshine,” (in which he also acted in) Chad performed and produced the soundtrack (out now!) with the film’s stars to great reviews. he also brought his band in and helped direct the musical performance scenes throughout the film as well as assisting and learning from director Craig McMahon throughout the filming and post-production. with the film wrapped and set to release, Chad dove back into writing more music and hit the road performing across the southwest. as the film’s release approached (March 16th 2020) Chad signed an A&R deal to continue his pursuit of a career in performing and songwriting.  Of course, the world was upended by an unfortunate pandemic which brought Chad back to his home state of Arizona.

With forced time to write and record due to the pandemic, Chad has charged forward with his writing and releases! with several singles released over the last two years with producers such as Matthew Keller (Lydia), Curtis Douglas, Shayan Amiri and Loren Israel, Chad has a large diverse discography.
