Italian recording artist Gianluca Zanna is an artist in every sense of the word as he manifests his talents across a wide range of creative endeavors as a flourishing multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and poet. Gianluca has honed his craft as a musician and poet from early childhood and it has culminated in him currently working with prominent music industry stalwart Brian Reeves, a world-famous record producer and sound engineer who has been behind the projects of luminaries such as Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, Billy Idol, U2 and Simple Minds. The pair have collaborated on a string of well-received single releases establishing themselves as a formidable creative partnership.

Gianluca and Reeves have teamed up to work their magic once again for another dazzling track titled “I Want to Know (Are You the One)” in which Gianluca wrote and produced and Reeves manned the post-production duties as the mixer. “I Want to Know” is an illuminating, upbeat dance track that shines with its bright sonics and instrumentation; heavily leaning into the electro pop space with its wondrous mix of melodious synths, pads and keyboard phrases. The soundscape is reminiscent of those big time pop tracks that ruled the 80’s. Foremost, the track has an intrinsic danceability as it’s extremely buoyant and that vibrancy is enhanced with the dazzling female vocals over the grooving instrumentation. Incredible sound design overall that illustrates a mesh of nostalgia with contemporary pop elements.

So what inspired the track? What is “I Want to Know” all about lyrically? Gianluca explains, “I dream of most of my melodies or are the results of my lifestyle experiences that give me emotions that I transform in music and lyrics. This melody came into my dream and a few days later I was inspired to create the lyrics by a woman whom I met in my life. All the songs I write are the results of real-life experience”.

“I Want to Know” is a brilliant song and composition. The songwriting vividly captures the essence of a romantic and emotional roller coaster that has had its share of trials and tribulations, however, it still has the capability of providing beautiful moments. The ethereal, angelic vocals project an alluring aura of romance and I feel that Gianluca’s poetic introduction sets up the harmonic journey that follows in the rest of the song.

Too many times in our life

We lived illusions and empty lies

Too many times but tonight

I want to know that you’re mine

More About Gianluca Zanna

Gianluca Zanna’s own musical journey began in Italy, where he was born in Rome. After what was in many respects an idyllic early childhood near the sea, listening to his grandfather’s serenades, soaking in the cinematic epic musical scores and fantasy in his family’s movie theatre, he went to a much more sterile and even harsh environment–boarding school. From the young age of 10, he grew up in the Italian National Boarding School “Convitto Nazionale,” and then through the elite Military Academy Nunziatella, the oldest Military School in the world. During his Convitto Nazionale boarding school experience, Gianluca discovered the magic of music–he could fly away to another universe. From that point on, instead of playing soccer, he wrote songs–both lyrics and melody. He serendipitously found some old instruments in the attic of the school, and using them, he taught himself how to play a bit of guitar, bass and drum.

At that same time, as a young teenager, Gianluca studied Ancient Latin and Ancient Greek, where he discovered a love for the great Italian poets of the classical past, like Ovid, Catullus, and Petrarch, leading to Dante and then D’Annunzio; he admired their ability to transmit feelings and pictures in a few brief phrases as a way to fight for what they believed in whether it be love, freedom, or another of their humanist values. Every spare moment, inspired, he found happiness writing his own poetry in a special little notebook, filling it with what became lyrics to his songs.

When Luca grew up in Italy in boarding schools and he was dreaming to become a songwriter and emigrate to America, he was listening to the work of Brian Reeves, a world-famous record producer and sound engineer among his credits Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, Billy Idol, U2, Simple Minds. Today Brian Reeves has mixed some of his latest songs like “I Want to Know”, “Storm”, “I AM” and “The Other Side of my Heart Remix”
