Rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black were granted pardons Tuesday night by Donald Trump in his final day as President.

Lil Wayne Granted a Full Pardon

Trump granted a full pardon to Lil Wayne (Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.).

Carter was facing charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon stemming from an incident last December.

Acting on an anonymous tip to search the jet Carter was aboard, Miami law enforcement discovered a loaded gun among other contraband.

As a result, Carter faced a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

The White House’s official statement highlighted Carter’s numerous charitable contributions as a consideration in his pardon.

The statement declared “Mr. Carter has exhibited this generosity through commitment to a variety of charities, including donations to research hospitals and a host of foodbanks.”

Kodak Black’s Sentence Commuted

Kodak Black (Bill Kahan Kapri) received a commutation of his sentence by the outgoing president.

He was serving time in a federal prison as part of his 46-month sentence levied in 2019.

Kapri was imprisoned as a result of falsifying information on federal forms to buy firearms on two separate occasions.

He was slated to be released in November 2022.

Above all, his countless philanthropic efforts were cited as a factor in his clemency.

According to the White House Statement, Kapri has been involved in such activities…

“as providing educational resources to students and families of fallen law enforcement officers and the underprivileged. In addition to these efforts, he has paid for the notebooks of school children, provided funding and supplies to daycare centers, provided food for the hungry, and annually provides for underprivileged children during Christmas.”

Other Music Figures Granted Clemency

Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez and Death Row Records co-founder Michael Harris also received pardons.

Perez had a conviction for conspiracy to distribute narcotics from the early 1990’s.

Harris was serving prison time for drug-trafficking and murder charges.
